The New Release from Old Forester Celebrates Historic Distillation Practices.
Old Forester recently announced the latest addition to its 117 Series: Prohibition Era Still Proof, a limited-edition bourbon crafted to honor the brand’s unique role during Prohibition. The expression launched on December 5, aligning with Repeal Day and commemorating the end of Prohibition in 1933.
A Tribute to Old Forester’s Legal Production During Prohibition
During the 1930s, only a handful of distilleries held government authorization to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes. Old Forester was among this small group. The new 117 Series release draws direct inspiration from this period, referencing the brand’s history of distilling at 130 proof during the “100-day distiller’s holiday” shortly before repeal.
Bottled at Historic 130 Proof
Prohibition Era Still Proof is bottled at 130 proof, intentionally matching the distillation proof used by Old Forester during this pre-repeal window. The brand notes that this release aims to capture the bold, uncut character found in historic barrels of the era.
Preservation of Craft and Resilience
Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo emphasized the release’s heritage-driven purpose.
“This release is a tribute to the ingenuity that allowed Old Forester to endure and emerge stronger during one of the most challenging periods for American whiskey,” said Trigo. “This bourbon offers a glimpse into the intensity and authenticity of our Prohibition heritage.”
Limited Availability Beginning December 5
The Prohibition Era Still Proof release is available beginning December 5 for $64.99. Consumers can find it in limited quantities via Old Forester’s online shop (shipping available to D.C., KY, NE, NH, ND) and select Kentucky retailers.
