Tasting Notes: Old Fourth Distillery 10 Year Bottled in Bond

Nose: The nose is very herbal forward. It has notes of black tea, cinnamon, clove and lemon to start with. As you continue to try to pick out flavors, the traditional bourbon notes of vanilla and oak pop through.

Palate: The mouthfeel was a little thin, however, it did awaken all parts of my palate. The herbal tea notes shine through at the onset. As you continue to sip, you’ll experience the age of the barrel with oak, vanilla, and tannins. The back of the palate does offer some light spice notes of white pepper and clove. After letting this sit for about 10 minutes, as I watched Thursday Night Football, it opened up with more brown sugar notes which rounded out the pour nicely.

Finish: It was a short finish with a pop of oak.

Closing Thoughts

For $80, the Old Fourth Distillery 10 Year Bottled in Bond represents excellent value for a bourbon of this age and mashbill. With its herbal-forward profile and traditional bourbon undertones, it’s a unique take on a 21% rye mashbill. If you’re a fan of bottled in bond bourbons, this release is well worth adding to your collection.
