Penelope Bourbon Releases Rare American Light Whiskey

Special Release of 17-Year Expression Highlights Both Heritage and Innovation

ST. LOUIS (Jan. 15, 2025) – Penelope Bourbon unveils a remarkable addition to its collection with the release of its 17-year-old American Light Whiskey. Distilled at an impressive 189 proof in 2006 at the historic Seagram’s site, now known as Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, this whiskey boasts an extraordinary heritage. Aged in second-fill oak barrels for 17 years and bottled at a cask strength of 138.8 proof (69.4% ABV), this rare release delivers a smooth and mellow profile that appeals to collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Limited Availability and Unique Characteristics

Penelope American Light Whiskey will be available in select markets starting February, with a suggested retail price of $99.99. This release, known for its approachability and refined taste, offers a unique contrast to the boldness of higher-proof bourbons. Its production methods and limited availability make it a coveted addition for whiskey aficionados.

Michael Paladini, Penelope’s founder and vice president of strategy for MGP, shares, “American Light Whiskey is always one of our favorite releases of the year. The 17-year-old barrels in this release are the oldest we have ever offered. Rich and flavorful, this is truly a special whiskey, and we are excited to get it out into the market.”

Tasting Notes and Mash Bill

Crafted with a mash bill of 99% corn and 1% malted barley, Penelope American Light Whiskey tantalizes the senses with sweet aromas of butterscotch, cake batter, and cotton candy. The palate enjoys flavors of brown sugar, vanilla bean ice cream, and light orchard fruits, culminating in a lingering finish with hints of light butter, waffle cone, and powdered sugar.

Danny Polise, Penelope’s founder and master blender, remarks, “This release marks an innovative chapter in American whiskey history. The high corn mash bill and extended aging have brought out a unique character that we are thrilled to share.”

Penelope’s Annual Limited Releases

The 17-year-old American Light Whiskey is part of Penelope’s annual Limited Releases, which feature some of the rarest and most unique barrels. Other notable releases include the award-winning Toasted Rye and the philanthropic F*ck Cancer series. A product locator for Penelope’s offerings is available on their website.
