Penelope Bourbon Introduces Spanish Flavors with Limited Edition Valencia Bourbon

ROSSELLE, N.J. (August 14, 2024) – Penelope Bourbon is excited to announce the launch of its annual limited-edition release: Penelope Valencia. This year’s release takes bourbon enthusiasts on a journey to southern Spain, where Penelope’s Four Grain Straight Bourbon Whiskey is finished in Vino de Naranja casks from Seville. Bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV), Penelope Valencia will be available at a suggested retail price of $79.99 for a 750mL bottle, with a limited release of 5,000 cases.

A Unique Bourbon with a Spanish Twist

Penelope Valencia is a marriage of tradition and innovation, combining the brand’s award-winning Four Grain Bourbon with the distinctive essence of Vino de Naranja—a unique orange wine from Spain’s southern coast. Vino de Naranja is produced by aging white wine with bitter Seville orange peels in oak barrels, resulting in a bold, aromatic wine that imparts a rich, citrus flavor.

Founder Michael Paladini shares, “We’re constantly evolving and tweaking our processes with the goal of making our products better year over year. This year’s Valencia is a great example of that commitment, and we’re excited to share it for fans to enjoy.”

Tasting Notes and Craftsmanship

The Penelope Valencia release features a mash bill of 74% corn, 7% rye, 16% wheat, and 3% malted barley. After distillation, the bourbon is finished for up to 12 months in Vino de Naranja casks, resulting in a one-of-a-kind flavor profile. Expect an aroma of bold spice and iced coffee cake with an orange glaze, a body bursting with citrus zest, mandarin, vanilla, and candied ginger, and a long, savory finish with hints of orange peel and black pepper.

“These are some of my favorite wine barrels to work with,” says Daniel Polise, founder and master blender of Penelope Bourbon. “The producer we partnered with from southern Spain creates exceptional orange wine, and this year’s release has fantastic, rich orange and citrus notes that really stand out from last year’s tangerine notes.”

Award-Winning Craftsmanship

Penelope Valencia is part of Penelope Bourbon’s Cooper Series, which includes other acclaimed cask-finished bourbons such as Rio (finished in American honey and Brazilian oak casks), Rosé (finished in French rosé wine casks), and Tokaji (finished in Hungarian wine casks). The Valencia release has already garnered attention, receiving a Silver medal from the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and being named a Top-10 Whiskey Under $100 by Whiskey Raiders.
