Tasting Notes: Remus Master Distiller Experimental Series

  • Nose: The flavors of this blew me away.  The nose on this pour was decadent.  Warm toffee drizzled over cheesecake.  There is a bitter cream cheese note that I loved (I also love cheesecake).  It layers with graham cracker crust and some berry compote to finish it off.
  • Palate: As I began to sip this bourbon, I noticed the rich texture of the pour across my palate.  As I continue to find the flavors rushing over my palate, toffee and peanut brittle shine through at first. The pour opened the more I sipped with burled figs, tobacco, and rich oak influence.  This pour is well-rounded and complex.
  • Finish: The dram was dark and complex with a nice finish, not too short or too long.  The final flavors were fig and toffee which made me crave something sweet after having this pour.

Final Verdict

It’s early in 2025, but the Remus Master Distiller Experimental Series may be one of the year’s standout bourbons. This well-crafted, high-rye bourbon is worth seeking out, and for those who enjoy comparisons, consider blinding it against High-Rye Baker’s for a fun tasting challenge.
