Redwood Empire Rocket Top, Bringing A Punch Of Flavor

After reviewing the new cask strength offerings from Redwood Empire, we’re diving into their 100 proof offerings. Up first is the Rocket Top Straight Rye Whiskey.  This is a unique blend of rye whiskey featuring four grains.  Let’s see how it tastes in our latest review!

Age: Undisclosed 

Mash bill: 87% Rye, 5% Malted Barely, 5% Wheat, 3% Corn

Style: Rye Whiskey 

Jake’s tasting notes: Rocket Top 

Nose:  Creamy smelling nose that made my mouth water. First time I have ever gotten watermelon on nose but it’s there and it smells tasty! 

Palate: Very thick mouthfeel, with notes of citrus, oak tannin, and vanilla.  This is a very balanced rye. 

Finish: Tannic and long. 

Closing Thoughts:

This is a sneaky good rye.  It has some very nice bourbon characteristics which may confuse some.  They have done a great job bringing unique rye flavor to the market, Rocket Top included.
