Jack Daniel’s recently announced their Single Barrel, Barrel Proof Rye Whiskey would be a permanent expression. In whiskey circles, their Single Barrel Rye Whiskeys have always been held in very high regard. Not having ever tried any of the Single Barrel Rye offerings before, this one piqued my interest. Would it be as good as all the the whiskey enthusiasts have told me? Let’s find out!

Jake’s Tasting Notes: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Barrel Proof Rye
Nose: Rich caramel, warm baking spices (cinnamon and nutmeg) and slight hint of cherry.
Palate: For 137.3 proof, it doesn’t drink as warm on the palate as I thought it would. Sweet rich flavors from the nose carry over to the palate. Caramel, cinnamon, and faint milk chocolate at the back end. Reminds me of a spiced bread pudding.
Finish: Warming finish through the whole sip. Full of flavor that lingers for a while.
Note: I did add a drop of water towards the end of my sipping experience that I believe enhanced the mouthfeel to make it a touch more oily and balanced out the finish.
Closing Thoughts
My first Jack Daniel’s Rye Whiskey experience was a home run. To the whiskey community who have pegged this as unsung hero, good job because it is just a solid pour all around! After tasting this Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye, I will be on the lookout for a bottle to keep on my home bar.
