Sourland Mountain Spirits out of Hopewell, NJ brings a variety of spirits. If the brand sounds familiar Scott and I highlighted their Gin aged in charred American Oak barrels earlier this year. As part of the the package that was sent to us this unique straight bourbon whiskey finished in Cabernet cask was shared with us and it’s now time to dive in!
The base spirit is aged four years and comes in at 102 proof.
Jake from Bourbon Lens Tasting Notes:
- Color: Mahogany
- Nose: At first smell is the essence of a big bold Cabernet, followed by raisins and plumbs to give it a bit of depth
- Palate: very full mouth feel with layers of flavors from the finishing cask. The whiskey reminds me of the infused flavor of the Dark Rum Basil Hayden. The bourbon carriers a crunchy peanut butter taste with more a strawberry jam that is lighter in flavor
- Finish: Drying effect as you expect from the cab finish
