A Tribute to Prohibition Era Doctors: “Ten Day Bourbon” Reviewed

The name “Ten Day” is a salute to the doctors and dentists of the Prohibition era who wrote ten-day prescriptions for whiskey to care for their patients

Founded by three doctors with a passion for bourbon, Ten Day Bourbon pays tribute to those medical professionals who kept the spirit of bourbon alive during United States’ Prohibition Era. Thank you to the fine Doctors over at Ten Day Bourbon for providing this “prescription-sized” sample (complete with a faux prescription for whatever ails us) of their inaugural batch of Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Let’s find out if this bourbon is “just what the doctors ordered”.

Fast Facts on Ten Day Bourbon:

  • Style: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • Mashbill: 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley
  • Proof: 100 (50% ABV)
  • Batch: #1

Bourbon Lens Tasting Notes:

  • Nose: freshly shucked sweet corn, vegetal/grass, rye bread toast, melted milk chocolate malt balls
  • Palate: caramel and candy apples, the whiskey is sweet without being overwhelming and has a lingering apple and cracked pepper note.
  • Finish: nice viscosity, a drying oak note, and lingering spice/heat in the back of the palate
  • Impressions: Ten Day Bourbon is an all around solid Kentucky Bourbon that carries a familiar corn sweetness one should expect in bourbon of this age. The accompanying story of the brand takes you back in time and this bottle would serve anyone well who wants to tell the story of prohibition era bourbon and the doctors who helped keep the bourbon industry alive during one of its darkest times. As the brand looks to introduce future batches, I hope they continue the historically significant 100 proof point and can continue to introduce a no frills, solid Kentucky Bourbon.

About Ten Day Bourbon:

In the heart of Kentucky, where the rolling hills and picturesque countryside serve as a backdrop to a rich history of bourbon-making, a unique story has emerged. Founded by three doctors with a passion for fine bourbon and a deep respect for its heritage, Ten Day Bourbon pays tribute to an extraordinary group of medical professionals who sustained the spirit of bourbon during the Prohibition era.

Established in 2023, Ten Day Bourbon Whiskey is not just another bourbon company; it’s a celebration of the enduring bond between the medical profession and America’s native spirit. The name “Ten Day” is a salute to the valiant doctors and dentists of the Prohibition era who ingeniously wrote ten-day prescriptions for whiskey to care for their patients. Despite the constraints of the Volstead Act, these healthcare professionals remained dedicated to their patients’ wellbeing and, in doing so, supported local bourbon distilleries through those challenging times.

Our founding doctors were inspired by the stories of these trailblazing physicians and sought to honor them by creating a bourbon that would appeal to their fellow professionals in the medical and dental fields. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, they meticulously crafted a bourbon worthy of the calling, that embodies the courage and determination of those who came before them.

As we raise our glasses to toast the past, the present, and the future, we remember the doctors who defied convention during Prohibition and kept the whiskey flowing, Ten Days at a time.
