As we continue our celebration of Irish Whiskey this week. I take a stroll down memory lane from last year’s St. Patrick Day podcast with J.J. Corry offering The Gael. If you want to learn about what an Irish Whiskey Bonder is or discover this woman owned business run by Louise McGuane check out our podcast here.
Just the facts:
- Proof: 92
- Age: Undisclosed
- Mash bill: Undisclosed
- Style: Blended Irish Whiskey
- Blend: Irish Grain & Malt Irish Whiskey Matured in Ex-Bourbon and Sherry Cask
Jake’s tasting notes: The Gael
Nose: Bright nose of lemon and pine which is the grain whiskey. Balanced by notes from the Sherry cask such as apricot and golden raisins.
Palate: While the nose and finish may be more grain forward the palate is more single malt with viscosity and sweeter notes of honey, herbal tea and white pepper.
Finish: A short burst of that is Irish Grain forward bright and lemony
Closing Thoughts:
Overall this is fun to go back to! When we first tired J.J. Corry I hadn’t had much experience with Irish whiskey but now a year later I truly can appreciate the nuances of Irish Whiskey. Specifically, what the Gael brings forward with its mix of grain and malt flavors. If you are wanting to try different elements of Irish Whiskey the Gael is a great whiskey to start and explore what Ireland has going on!
