Limited-Edition Scotch Celebrates James Bond’s Cinematic Legacy
The Macallan has unveiled The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release, a limited-edition single malt Scotch whisky commemorating the 55th anniversary of the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever. The release continues the creative collaboration between The Macallan and the James Bond franchise, following the brand’s James Bond 60th Anniversary Release in 2022.
Crafted by The Macallan Whisky Maker Russell Greig, the expression draws inspiration from the film’s themes of intrigue, duality, and storytelling, as well as Bond’s notable knowledge of wine, which plays a role in the film’s narrative.
Crafted with Hybrid and Red Wine-Seasoned Oak Casks
Distilled in 2007 and aged for 18 years, the whisky was matured in a combination of bespoke hybrid casks made from sherry-seasoned European and American oak, along with American oak casks that previously held red wine. According to The Macallan, this cask selection reflects moments in Diamonds Are Forever where Bond’s understanding of wine helps uncover key clues, while also showcasing innovation in maturation techniques.
The whisky is bottled at 45.5% ABV with a natural color described as evocative of the red and orange Aztec sandstone landscapes of Nevada, a visual reference to the film’s Las Vegas setting.
Tasting Profile and Whisky Maker Commentary
On the nose, the whisky presents polished oak, vanilla bean, and rich dried fruits. The palate opens with creamy vanilla and caramel, followed by cocoa-dusted truffles, coffee, dried fruits, and subtle spice, leading to a long, refined finish.
“Like Bond himself, this whisky holds its secrets. It may appear dark and mysterious, yet on the palate it surprises with elegance and lightness,” said Russell Greig, Whisky Maker, The Macallan. “Each cask adds a layer to the story – a reflection of the film’s twists and turns, and a testament to the shared spirit of innovation that connects The Macallan and James Bond.”
Packaging Inspired by Official Bond Archives
The bottle and presentation box draw directly from Diamonds Are Forever production artwork housed in the official James Bond archives. Design elements reference the film’s opening title sequence and laser-beam satellite imagery, reinforcing the connection between whisky, storytelling, and cinematic history.

The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release is available beginning February 3, 2026, exclusively via themacallan.com and at The Macallan Estate Boutique, with a suggested retail price of $750. Wider availability at select U.S. retailers is expected to begin in March 2026.
