The Midnight Silkie Revives Old Irish Technique Of Turfed Whiskey

The Midnight Silkie Irish Whiskey

If you haven’t caught our conversation with James Doherty of Sliabh Liag Distillers, then before you go any further, please listen now! Now that you have that done, let’s discuss Turfed Irish Whiskey. What’s that, you say? For lack of a better term, it is peated whiskey. Let’s dive in to the Midnight Silkie and see how it tastes.

Just the Facts:

  • Proof: 92
  • Age: Undisclosed
  • Mash bill: Blended Irish Whiskey
  • Style: Turfed (Peated) Irish Whiskey

Jake’s Tasting Notes:  The Midnight Silkie

Nose: You are met wafting of smoke, the secondary levels of flavors consist of grapefruit, vanilla and cinnamon.

Palate: The smokiness continues on the palate.  But fades subtly to sweet notes of vanilla, cinnamon and tropical fruits.  The smoky undertones gives you the feeling of grilled fruit.

Finish: Subtly Smokey with lingering flavors

Closing Thoughts:

After spending times with James of Sliabh Liag, this whiskey came to life for me.  I was apprehensive to try a turfed whiskey, but the Midnight Silkie has slowly become a return sipper for me as it gives me flavors I don’t get every day.  If you are looking tor something new and fun, give this one a try.
