New Barrel Proof Series Debuts with Batch 1, a 5-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.
Wheel Horse Whiskey has launched its new Barrel Master Select series, marking the brand’s first foray into barrel proof, small batch whiskey. The debut release is a 5-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled at 112.6 proof, with a total run of just 2,100 bottles. The whiskey is incredibly priced at $39.99 and is distilled and matured at Green River Distilling Co. in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Crafted by Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan
Batch 1 of the series was crafted by Wheel Horse Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan and blends twelve hand-selected barrels of 5–6-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon. The whiskey is bottled without chill filtration to preserve full flavor and complexity. Corrigan stated, “When we launched Wheel Horse in 2019 as a 101 proof brand, we set out to craft a whiskey that was bold, approachable, and versatile… With Barrel Master Select, we get to present our whiskey in its purest form, and each release will reflect the character of the barrels that make it shine.”
Flavor Profile: Rich and Robust
The inaugural Barrel Master Select release promises to deliver a layered tasting experience. The nose offers cherry, mocha, and warm spice, while the palate presents notes of toffee, vanilla, and café au lait. The finish lingers with flavors of toasted walnut, burnt sugar, and Black Forest cake, showcasing the depth gained through barrel proof aging.
Limited Availability and Future Releases
Barrel Master Select Batch 1 is now available in limited quantities nationwide via online retailers and in select markets. Wheel Horse plans to expand the series with additional barrel proof offerings, including a Kentucky Straight Rye expected to release in fall 2025.
