Woodford Reserve has unveiled the latest release in its limited-edition Distillery Series: Tawny Port Finish. This new expression, released May 20, 2025, blends rye and bourbon whiskeys with bourbon finished in Tawny Port barrels to highlight the fruit-forward character of the spirit. The final product is bottled at 90.4 proof and is available in limited quantities for $64.99 per 375mL bottle.
Blending Innovation with Barrel Finishing
The Tawny Port Finish reflects Woodford Reserve’s focus on experimentation and blending. “This expression highlights our ability to artfully blend rye and bourbon whiskey, as well our approach to barrel experimentation,” said Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall. “The Tawny Port barrels impart delicate notes of wood and concentrated fruit, which combined with the charred oak barrels, allow us to create a rich, layered whiskey.”
Detailed Flavor and Aroma Profile
According to the brand, the whiskey displays a dark amber color and an aromatic profile of brown sugar, semi-sweet chocolates, nutmeg, and clove, layered over overripe bananas and dried dark fruits. The flavor includes rich raisin, plum, clove, and nutmeg, with notes of brown sugar sweetness and toasted walnut. The finish is described as long, with lingering dried fruit and toasted nut characteristics.

Tawny Port Finish is part of Woodford Reserve’s Distillery Series, a collection intended to explore creative whiskey-making techniques.
