Co-Founder and Head Distiller Brett Carlile revealed that the idea stemmed from a long-standing curiosity.
Woodinville Whiskey Co. has announced the release of a limited-edition Tequila Finish version of its Flagship Bourbon. “It’s something I always wanted to try but was afraid to take a stab at. Eventually, curiosity got the best of me. So, I went for it and was blown away by how well Tequila and Bourbon play together,” said Carlile.
A Pacific Northwest Bourbon Journey
The bourbon begins with grains sourced from Quincy, Washington, where the Omlin family has been farming for four generations. After harvest, the grains are transported over the Cascade Mountains to the Woodinville distillery, located in Western Washington. There, local environmental factors—such as airborne wild yeasts from surrounding wineries and breweries—contribute to the whiskey’s unique character.
Aged in Oak, Finished in Tequila Casks
The bourbon is aged in new American Oak barrels crafted from wood seasoned outdoors for 18 to 24 months. Once the bourbon reached nearly six years of age, Carlile selected it for finishing in Extra Añejo Tequila barrels, sourced specifically for this experimental project.

A Warehouse 1 Experiment Comes to Fruition
The finishing process took place in Warehouse 1, an original barrelhouse on the farm known for housing Woodinville’s experimental releases. Carlile and co-founder Orlin Sorensen monitored the aging process through seasonal extremes. “A few months back, they tasted it and knew it was ready to release,” the company stated.
Limited Release Set for May 2025
The Tequila Finish Woodinville Flagship Bourbon is bottled at 100 proof with a suggested retail price of \$69.99. Fewer than 2,000 bottles are available. The first 500 will be released at the Woodinville distillery on Saturday, May 3 at 10:00 a.m. The remaining bottles will be sold exclusively online at woodinvillewhiskeyco.com starting May 5.
