Scott’s Tasting Notes: First West Platinum Bourbon Whiskey
- Nose: blackberries, spicy/peppery, oak, well-worn leather, and dry hay
- Palate: warm berries and cherries, with a doughy breadiness; reminiscent of a warm fruit cobbler. The bourbon is a bit proofy initially, but the spicy and warming chest heat pair nicely with a cooler evening. The years spent in oak are evident here.
- Finish: the finish is a bit abrupt, although not tannic or bitter as one might expected from 10-18 year old bourbon.
Closing Thoughts
This is a balanced blend of well-aged bourbon whiskeys that carries a hefty price. For those looking for a premium and high age bourbon, you would not be disappointed in adding this to your repertoire of whiskies. It has a fruit cobbler-like palate that I love to find in bourbon. As with other 15 STARS releases, this is a very complex and impactful blend, albeit with a “Platinum” level price tag. If you’re looking for a premium bourbon that’s sure to impress, you won’t go wrong with 15 STARS Platinum.
