To honor the 20th anniversary of its Redbreast 15 Year Old whiskey, Irish Distillers has announced a special limited edition cask strength version. The commemorative release comes from just 15 casks, selected to match the whiskey’s age and significance in the brand’s history.
Cask Strength Edition Bottled at 56.3% ABV
The limited release is bottled at natural cask strength, 56.3% ABV, and matured in a mix of ex-Bourbon and oloroso Sherry-seasoned casks. Master blender Dave McCabe explained, “This release is a celebration of everything Redbreast 15 Year Old represents – heritage, craftsmanship, and character. Bottling it at natural cask strength allows the whiskey to fully showcase its complexity and vibrancy. Selecting 15 casks for this expression was a meaningful choice, connecting the whiskey’s age to its creation story.”
Flavor Profile and Pricing
According to Redbreast, the whiskey features bright citrus notes, herbal undertones, and a lively spice character, complemented by dried fruits and toasted oak. The release will be sold exclusively through the Midleton Distillery Collection beginning at 12pm on June 11, priced at €130 (US $148).
Origins and Enduring Popularity
Initially launched as a one-off in 2005, Redbreast 15 Year Old became a staple due to strong consumer demand. Master blender emeritus Billy Leighton noted, “When Redbreast 15 was first created, it was intended to be a one-time release. Its overwhelming success led it to become a permanent part of our portfolio. This cask strength edition captures the spirit of that original moment, delivering a whiskey that is both deeply familiar and thrillingly new.”
