The New Addition to Aberfeldy’s Wine Cask Series
Aberfeldy Single Malt Scotch Whisky has announced the release of the Aberfeldy 15 Year Old Bolgheri Red Wine Cask Finish, the latest installment in its Wine Cask Collection. This limited-edition expression showcases Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed malt character, complemented by the bold, layered influence of Tuscan red wine casks.
Matured and Finished with Precision
Crafted by Malt Master Stephanie Macleod, the whisky was first aged for 15 years in refill and hogshead casks before being finished for two years in rare Bolgheri red wine casks sourced from Tuscany, Italy. The finishing process enhances the whisky’s depth and complexity while maintaining Aberfeldy’s hallmark smoothness and warmth.
Tuscan Influence Meets Highland Tradition
Bolgheri, located along Tuscany’s coast, is renowned for producing “Super Tuscan” wines crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These wines are known for their rich, balanced flavors—qualities that complement Aberfeldy’s refined malt profile. The 15 Year Old Bolgheri Red Wine Cask Finish delivers aromas of dark cherries and ripe plums, followed by flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, and nutmeg, underscored by Aberfeldy’s signature honeyed sweetness and a lingering oak finish.
Continuing the Wine Cask Legacy
This release extends Aberfeldy’s ongoing exploration of wine cask maturation, joining previous editions finished in casks from Napa Valley, Pomerol, Bordeaux, and the Rhône Valley. Each release in the series demonstrates the distillery’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship. “In keeping with our approach to innovation and exploration, we wanted to use these beautiful Tuscan casks again, for a second expression, as they contrast so wonderfully with the signature character of ABERFELDY,” said Malt Master Stephanie Macleod. “Combining the two has crafted a beautifully rich and rounded Single Malt with soft ripe red cherries and creamy vanilla notes, spice and layers of dark chocolate and scented oak.”
