Colorado Craft Distillery Unveils High-Rye Expression Crafted at 9,600 Feet.

Breckenridge Distillery recently announced the launch of Breckenridge Rye Whiskey, a new permanent addition to its whiskey lineup that showcases the distillery’s approach to crafting spirits at high altitude in the Colorado Rockies.

Produced at the distillery’s 9,600-foot elevation facility in Breckenridge, Colorado, the new release features an 80% rye mash bill and is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). The whiskey is designed to deliver a traditional rye profile with bold spice balanced by layers of sweetness and fruit.

A New Chapter for Breckenridge Whiskey

Known as one of the highest distilleries in the world, Breckenridge Distillery has built a reputation for producing award-winning whiskey while embracing the unique environmental conditions of the Rocky Mountains.

According to founder Bryan Nolt, the development of the new rye was driven by a desire to create a whiskey that reflects the bold rye character found in classic expressions from decades past.

“Rye whiskey has always been one of our favorites,” said Nolt. “Traditional Rye fans talk a lot about how many of today’s available offerings lack the big rye notes with a perfect spice balance that we enjoyed in decades past. We wanted to bring back classic Rye, bold but in harmony, devoid of the angular oak notes you typically encounter these days.”

Nolt added that the release represents years of refinement and experimentation aimed at defining what Colorado whiskey can be.

Tasting Notes

Breckenridge Rye Whiskey delivers a layered flavor profile built around its high-rye mash bill.

  • Nose: Soft chocolate, Cherry notes, Honey, Delicate hay, and Gentle rye spice
  • Palate: Light chocolate, Rich caramel, Cocoa, and Stone fruit
  • Finish: Bold rye spice with a Warm, lingering finish

The distillery describes the whiskey as full-flavored and approachable while maintaining the spice-forward character rye enthusiasts often seek.
