Washington Lafayette and David Jennings Debut Caleb’s Crossing Whiskey Line.
Washington Lafayette and David Jennings, the founder of Rare Bird 101, have announced the launch of Caleb’s Crossing, a new line of American whiskeys. The initial release features two distinct expressions: a Dual Cask Finish Bourbon and a Straight Rye Whiskey finished in Pineau des Charentes. These limited-edition whiskeys will be available in April 2025 at a suggested retail price of $149.99 each.
Caleb’s Crossing pays tribute to both the heritage of David Jennings and his family’s connection to both American whiskey and French wine and brandy. The brand’s name honors David’s ancestor, Caleb Jennings, a Revolutionary War veteran who journeyed from Virginia to the French settlement of New Bordeaux, South Carolina. “It’s both an exploration of flavor and a celebration of family,” said Jennings.
The Dual Cask Finish Bourbon is crafted from a blend of two high-rye straight bourbons, finished in first-fill Pineau des Charentes and Armagnac casks. Jennings emphasized the importance of maintaining the bourbon’s traditional character while introducing the flavors of Pineau and Armagnac. “It was crucial that the spirit retained its bourbon identity, yet at the same time showcased the sweeter, grape-forward aspects of Pineau and the dried fruit and leather attributes of Armagnac,” said Jennings. A seven-month slow proofing process was used to achieve the desired balance.
The Caleb’s Crossing Rye Whiskey is derived from a single barrel of 95/5 rye and underwent secondary maturation in a first-fill Pineau des Charentes cask. “The payoff is a whiskey of significant depth and intensity, with layers of grape-laden sweetness accompanied by a prickly candy-like spice,” said Jennings.
Both expressions will be available exclusively on BourbonOutfitter.com starting April 4, 2025. For more details, visit WashingtonLafayette.com.
