Mexico and Japan merge distilling traditions in a limited-edition tequila aged in Yamazaki Japanese whisky casks.

El Tesoro Unveils Fourth Mundial Collection Release

El Tesoro de Don Felipe® Tequila has announced the newest expression in its acclaimed Mundial Collection: El Tesoro® Mundial: Yamazaki® Edition. This marks the brand’s first-ever collaboration with The House of Suntory, the founding house of Japanese whisky. The release unites two legendary distilling traditions—Mexico’s tequila craftsmanship and Japan’s whisky artistry—into one rare and refined bottling.

Collaboration Between Masters of Tequila and Whisky

The Yamazaki Edition brings together three renowned distillers: Carlos and Jenny Camarena, the former and current Master Distillers of El Tesoro, and Shinji Fukuyo, Chief Blender for The House of Suntory. The collaboration reflects both families’ deep heritage and shared dedication to craftsmanship. “It is our greatest honor to share this opportunity with our friend Shinji Fukuyo-san and the team at The House of Suntory,” said Jenny Camarena, Master Distiller and CEO at El Tesoro and La Alteña Distillery. “Each time we release a new one, we show another way tequila can take the shape of something new that can express ideas and flavors one would never expect.”

Aged in Yamazaki 12-Year Sherry and Wine Casks

The El Tesoro Mundial: Yamazaki Edition is an Añejo tequila aged 12 months in authentic Yamazaki® 12-Year-Old sherry and wine casks, imparting notes of red berries, warm spice, and delicate sweetness. This special release marks the first and only time El Tesoro has aged tequila in Yamazaki casks. The tequila is designed for sipping, offering a deep and balanced flavor profile that reflects both traditions.

Continuing the Mundial Legacy

This release follows previous entries in the Mundial Collection, including:

  • The Laphroaig® Edition (2021) – Aged in peated Scotch casks, lending hints of ocean air and smoke.
  • The Knob Creek® Rye Edition (2023) – Finished in rye whiskey barrels for a balance of sweetness and spice.
  • The Basil Hayden® Toast Edition (2024) – Aged in toasted barrels, delivering soft caramel and vanilla notes.

Each Mundial edition highlights El Tesoro’s exploration of global barrel finishes and its commitment to honoring diverse distilling traditions.
