GALLO has finalized its acquisition of Four Roses Bourbon from Kirin Holdings, marking the return of the bourbon brand to U.S. family ownership for the first time in 83 years.

The transaction represents a significant development for Four Roses as it looks to enter a new phase focused on growth and global expansion.

Strategic Expansion of Premium Spirits Portfolio

According to the announcement, the acquisition aims to strengthen GALLO’s position in the premium spirits category while expanding its footprint in key international markets, including Europe and Japan. Four Roses, known for its ten distinct bourbon recipes derived from two mashbills and five yeast strains, will continue to operate with continuity across production, personnel, and brand identity.

“Four Roses is one of the most respected bourbons in the world – defined by heritage and craftsmanship – and Kirin was instrumental in re-establishing the brand as a premium straight whiskey in the U.S.,” said Britt West. “GALLO has more than five decades of expertise in spirits distillation, maturation, and brand building. We are committed to upholding Four Roses’ quality and building the brand as a cornerstone of our portfolio through increased consumer and trade engagement, innovation, and global expansion.”

Leadership and Operational Continuity

As part of the transition, Four Roses’ existing team will remain in place, including Master Distiller Brent Elliott. The company emphasized that maintaining the brand’s traditions, production methods, and quality standards will remain a priority under new ownership.

“This is an incredibly exciting chapter for Four Roses and a meaningful milestone in our 138-year history,” said Brent Elliott. “From the beginning, GALLO demonstrated deep respect and appreciation for the brand. As we join the GALLO family, we are energized by the alignment in values and the long-term vision they bring. With their support, we’re well positioned to build on our momentum while staying true to the quality and character that have guided us for generations.”

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Brand Legacy and Global Reach

Founded in 1888, Four Roses Distillery produces bourbon using a combination of two mashbills and five proprietary yeast strains, resulting in ten unique recipes. The brand is currently distributed in more than 83 countries and has received numerous industry accolades, including recognition at the World Whiskies Awards.
