The last of the five Redwood Empire reviews is here! We turn our attention to Grizzly Beast, a wheated bourbon with a higher rye content. These unique mashbills are keeping me on my toes and I can’t wait to see how this one tastes. Let’s review, shall we?
Just the facts:
Proof: 100
Age: Undisclosed
Mash bill: 66% corn, 23% Rye, 4% Malted Barely, 7% Wheat
Style: Bourbon
Jake’s Tasting Notes: Grizzly Beast
Nose: Met with a very light, yet sweet nose. Powdered sugar with hint of citrus and black pepper stand out.
Palate: Very light and easy drinking bourbon. The citrus and pepper notes from the nose carry over to the palate. However, there is a cream soda note that lingers at the back of the palate that’s quite delicious.
Finish: Short to medium
Closing Thoughts:
This is a great session bourbon; sit down with this while watching the game and enjoy the sweet and savory tones of this pour. It’s something that you can come back to again and again and enjoy.
