Hard Truth Distilling Co. has unveiled its first 7-year whiskeys: Sweet Mash Rye, Straight Bourbon, and Wheated Bourbon.
Hard Truth Distilling Co. has announced the release of three limited seven-year whiskeys from its core portfolio: Sweet Mash Rye, Bourbon, and Wheated Bourbon. The expressions mark the first seven-year age-stated whiskeys produced by the distillery and were crafted entirely at its Nashville, Indiana campus.
The release will debut exclusively at the distillery beginning Saturday, February 28, with a limited allocation scheduled to roll out to select retailers in the following weeks.
Master Distiller Commentary on Milestone
Bryan Smith, master distiller and partner of Hard Truth Distilling Co., commented on the significance of the release: “If you’ve been following our story here at Hard Truth, you will understand how important a seven year age statement is for an authentic grain-to-glass whiskey maker. Our sweet mash process creates a delicious whiskey at younger ages, but after seven winters and summers, these whiskeys have been transformed into something truly special. I cannot wait for you to try them!”
The distillery attributes the character of the trio to its sweet mash process, which uses fresh ingredients for each batch rather than the sour mash method.
7-Year Straight Bourbon, Sweet Mash Rye, and Wheated Bourbon
The 7-Year Hard Truth Straight Bourbon is described by the distillery as tawny in color, with aromas of buttered toffee, vanilla, cherry, mocha, and rye spice. The palate features dark cherries with honey, toffee, and vanilla custard, followed by a finish of candied pecan, rye spice, oak, and clove.
The 7-Year Hard Truth Sweet Mash Rye is auburn in color, with aromas of maple, golden raisin, plum, vanilla, and fennel. Flavor notes include candied fruit, rye spice, maple, cracked black pepper, and oak, finishing with brûléed sugar, cherry syrup, vanilla, fennel, and oak.
The 7-Year Hard Truth Wheated Bourbon is described as burnt amber in color, with aromas of nougat, dark chocolate, toasted almond, and vanilla. The palate includes pecan pie, milk chocolate, sweet cream, and clove, concluding with candied fruit and cracked black pepper.
Distillery Events and Availability
Hard Truth will host special events at its Nashville, Indiana distillery on February 28 to celebrate the release. The seven-year expressions highlight the distillery’s grain-to-glass production approach and aging.
