A First-of-Its-Kind Collaboration

Liberty Pole Spirits of Washington, PA, and Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye of Bristol, PA, have joined forces to release a unique collaborative blend. The distillery-only bottling unites two barrels—one from each producer—showcasing Pennsylvania’s long-standing rye whiskey tradition.

Details of the Release

The whiskey is bottled at 119.6 proof and priced at $79.99 per bottle, available exclusively at the two distilleries. The blend combines a 4 year, 7-month-old barrel from Liberty Pole with a 6 year, 4-month-old barrel from Dad’s Hat, creating a bold, balanced rye expression.

Friendship Across the Alleghenies

The collaboration stems from a years-long friendship between Jim Hough of Liberty Pole and Herman Mihalich of Dad’s Hat. The two distillers often introduced one another with mutual respect—Jim calling Herman’s whiskey “the best rye east of the Alleghenies,” while Herman described Jim’s as “the best rye west of the Alleghenies.”

Blending the Best of Both Distilleries

In early 2025, the distilleries exchanged three barrels each to begin blending trials. Remarkably, both teams independently chose the same two-barrel combination out of nine possible pairings. The result is a rye whiskey that reflects both houses’ craftsmanship while honoring Pennsylvania’s Monongahela Rye Style.

Celebration of Collaboration

“This release is a celebration of collaboration over competition, of respect over rivalry, and of the deep roots that connect Pennsylvania’s whiskey-making heritage,” the distilleries stated. Quantities are extremely limited, and bottles are expected to sell quickly once released.

Limited Availability

The Barrel-Strength Friendship Rye will be sold only on-site at Liberty Pole Spirits (Washington, PA) and Dad’s Hat Pennsylvania Rye (Bristol, PA). Whiskey fans are encouraged to follow both distilleries for updates on the official release date.
