The 2026 edition honors Northern Dancer, a Hall of Fame racehorse and the first Canadian-bred horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.
Maker’s Mark and Keeneland Race Course have announced the third installment in their 10-year “Greats of the Gate” commemorative bottle series.
Limited Release Timed with Keeneland Spring Meet
The limited-edition bottles will arrive at select Kentucky retailers on April 16, following the $650,000 Maker’s Mark Mile held during Keeneland’s Spring Meet. The annual series is designed to celebrate iconic Thoroughbred racehorses while raising funds for Kentucky-based nonprofit organizations.
Charitable Initiative Supporting Kentucky Nonprofits
Proceeds from the series are part of a long-term commitment to raise $4 million for nonprofits supporting Kentucky’s horse racing industry, arts, and hospitality sectors. Beneficiaries of the 2026 release include Kentucky Classic Arts, Kentucky Harvest, the Kentucky Arts Center of the Bluegrass, and Blue Grass Farms Charities.
Bottle Artwork and Collectibility
The bottle features artwork by Tyler Robertson, incorporating teal and yellow polka dots inspired by Northern Dancer’s racing silks. Additional design elements include teal wax dipping and a yellow ribbon topper. Each bottle includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Rob Samuels, Shannon Arvin, and the artist.
Commentary on the Series
“The ‘Greats of the Gate’ series is more than a tribute to legendary Thoroughbreds—it’s a meaningful way for Maker’s Mark to invest in the Kentucky culture that has sustained our craft for generations,” said Rob Samuels. “Through our partnership with Keeneland, we’re able to turn our shared heritage and commitment to purpose into tangible support for the organizations that make our community so vibrant.”
“Northern Dancer has long been a defining figure in Thoroughbred racing, and this commemorative bottle is a tribute to his enduring impact on the sport,” said Shannon Arvin. “By blending the artistry of racing with the craftsmanship of bourbon, we are creating meaningful support for the nonprofit organizations that form the foundation of our industry.”
