Today, we are reviewing McTavish Spirits’ debut whiskey release, The Warchief, which is a 7 Year Bottled-in-Bond Straight Bourbon. Scotsman and actor, Graham McTavish, launched McTavish Spirits in August 2023. You can find the full press release in our archive. Let’s get right into the review.
About the Bourbon:
- Proof: 100 (50% ABV)
- Age: 7 Year Old
- Style: Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Distilled in Indiana
- SRP: $75
Scott’s Tasting Notes: The Warchief Bourbon
- Nose: vanilla pineapple cake. Tooty fruity. Cinnamon lingers.
- Palate: vanilla custard. Buttery grits. Flamed oranged peel.
- Finish: Drinks warmer than its proof, perhaps due to the cinnamon spice notes.
Closing Thoughts
McTavish Spirits’ first release is a solid full-flavored bourbon that certainly bucks the trend of slapping a celebrity name on a bottle with little thought and more mid-tier bourbon inside. Instead, McTavish has secured some nicely aged 7 year old bourbon and even ensured that the Bottled in Bond designation is proudly displayed on the label. Graham has been intimately involved in the launch and promotion of this brand and has shown his passion for whiskey. Smartly, he’s teamed up with some knowledgeable and passionate American Whiskey drinkers on this side of the pond to get this project off the ground. A second label recently appeared online as a potential extension of the McTavish Spirits lineup, a rye whiskey (Shoutout to @ComingWhiskey). Fans of Graham should definitely keep an eye out for what’s in store for the brand.
