Michter’s Distillery has announced the July 2025 release of its Shenk’s Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger’s Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon.
These two annual expressions form the core of Michter’s Legacy Series and are vintage dated with the year of bottling. They will be joined by a third entry in the series this year, the newly added Bomberger’s PFG™ (Precision Fine Grain).
Honoring Centuries of Whiskey Heritage
The Legacy Series pays tribute to Michter’s historical roots, dating back to 1753 when John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite farmer, established the original distillery in Pennsylvania. That distillery later became known as Bomberger’s in the 1800s before adopting the Michter’s name in the mid-20th century. “Our Michter’s production team puts a great deal of thought and a lot of effort into making our Legacy Series releases special,” said Michter’s President Joseph J. Magliocco.
Distinctive Oak Aging Defines Unique Flavor Profiles
Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee highlighted the unique characteristics of the 2025 Shenk’s release: “Some of it was finished in French oak toasted, but not charred barrels crafted from wood grown in the Vosges forest, and this helped to accentuate the character of the rye in this whiskey.” The 2025 Bomberger’s Declaration also emphasizes barrel variation, using Chinquapin oak aged outdoors from 18 months to 5 years. “The result is a bold and multi-dimensional experience to savor and enjoy,” added Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.
Proof, Pricing, and Availability
Shenk’s Homestead will be bottled at 91.2 proof (45.6% ABV) with a U.S. suggested retail price of $110. Bomberger’s Declaration will be offered at 108 proof (54% ABV) and priced at $120. Both expressions will be available in limited quantities nationwide starting in July.
Recognized Global Excellence
Michter’s continues to receive international recognition for its quality. In October 2024, the brand was named The World’s Most Admired Whiskey for a second consecutive year by a global academy of voters via Drinks International. The distillery produces a variety of traditional American whiskeys, including bourbon, rye, sour mash, and American whiskey, each aged to its peak maturity.
