LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 25, 2024 // Just in time for America’s 248th Birthday, Michter’s Distillery is excited to unveil its 2024 Legacy Series this July. The series features Shenk’s Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger’s Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon, both vintage-dated with the year of bottling.

Each edition of Shenk’s and Bomberger’s offers unique characteristics, with Michter’s production team making creative adjustments annually. Michter’s President, Joseph J. Magliocco, notes, “While there is some continuity from year to year, our production team makes creative adjustments to each edition of these whiskeys.”

Heritage and Craftsmanship

Michter’s Legacy Series pays homage to a rich history. Founded by Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk in 1753, Shenk’s distillery later became Bomberger’s Distillery in the 1800s before adopting the Michter’s name in the mid-20th century.

For the 2024 Shenk’s release, Michter’s Master Distiller Dan McKee highlights the use of rye, malted rye, and caramel malt, adding creaminess to the whiskey’s herbaceous and spicy profile. Select barrels include oak from the Vosges region of France, seasoned for 24 months and toasted to Michter’s specifications.

Bomberger’s 2024 release also features malted rye. Andrea Wilson, Michter’s Master of Maturation, describes this year’s edition: “The 2024 Bomberger’s uses Chinquapin oak to enhance dark chocolate and stewed fruit notes, complemented by spices for a bold, rich, and balanced complexity with a long, warm finish.” The Chinquapin oak was seasoned for 36 months before toasting and charring.
