Middleburg Barrel Company has introduced 1787 Provenance Bourbon, a new whiskey line focused on liquid quality, barrel selection, and consumer experience. The first releases include:
- 1787 Provenance Straight Bourbon Whiskey (Aged 7 Years)
- 107 proof (53.5% ABV)
- SRP $69.99
- Distilled in Bardstown, KY.
- This bourbon offers notes of baking spice, toffee, and soft tobacco.
- 1787 Provenance 14-Year Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- 122 proof (61.1% ABV)
- SRP $259.99
- Distilled in Frankfort, KY.
- Notes of Luxardo cherry, brown sugar, cracked pepper, and a long finish.
Both expressions received early acclaim at the 2024 American Whiskey Masters, with the 7-Year earning a Master Medal and the 14-Year securing Gold.
Barrel Selection as the Defining Element
Principal Whiskeymaker Jay West, known for his work as a nationally recognized critic at Whiskey Raiders, personally selects barrels for Provenance. The casks rest in new rickhouses on the 121-acre Provenance Estate in Middleburg, Virginia. Depending on the profile, barrels are either blended into layered expressions or released as single-barrel offerings.
Immersive Consumer Experiences
The Provenance Estate offers visitors direct access to the whiskey-making process. Guests can explore more than 2,000 aging barrels, taste whiskey directly from casks, and create custom-labeled bottles through hands-on blending experiences. Entire barrel purchases are also available, providing an exclusive opportunity for collectors.
A Founder Blending Legacy and Innovation
Founder Viyas Sundaram brings a background in preservation and entrepreneurship, with prior ventures including the revival of Washington, D.C.’s Fountain Inn and co-founding The Bourbon Concierge. “Provenance is about honoring the past while shaping bourbon’s future,” said Sundaram. “We built this brand to showcase how exceptional barrels and thoughtful blending can create whiskeys that stand with the very best.”
