Like quite a few people, I started my whiskey journey over the last several years. When I first went to shelves, the Old Ezra 7 bourbon was one of my first purchases and I couldn’t get enough of it. Fast forward a few years and its sister product finally hits shelves, Old Ezra 7 Rye Whiskey. This release was one of my most anticipated whiskies of the year.
Let’s dive in and find out what it is all about!
Just the facts:
Proof: 114
Age: 7 years Old
Mash bill: A Blend of 51% rye and 95% rye
Style: Rye Whiskey
Jake’s Tasting Notes: Old Ezra 7 Rye Whiskey
Nose: Candied orange slices; my senses awaken and my mouth begins to water as this is my favorite nosing note. It fades to a rich caramel that you find in a candy bar. This nose just screams dessert.
Palate: The mouthfeel is creamy and the flavors are bold. Notes of candy citrus, caramel, and a peppery spice on the backend. This blend of ryes gives you the balance of Kentucky and Indiana style whiskies all in one.
Finish: Subtle, but long.
Closing Thoughts:
I have seen many reviews before that made me very skeptical. After drinking this, I believe this would be one of my favorite Rye Whiskeys in 2022. This is a really well done rye with the flavors that I personally love. Let us know your thoughts on this whiskey, if you’ve tried it!
