Heritage rye brand debuts an unfiltered, full-proof expression aged 12 years in Kentucky
Old Overholt has announced the release of Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength 12-Year Rye, a limited-edition Kentucky-style rye whiskey distilled and barreled in the spring of 2013. The release marks one of the brand’s oldest and most mature expressions to date, highlighting the enduring craftsmanship behind one of America’s longest-standing rye labels. Last year’s release was an 11-year aged limited edition.
Twelve Years of Aging Across Four Warehouses
This special release was aged for 12 years across four distinct warehouses in Clermont, Kentucky, ensuring depth, balance, and consistency throughout the maturation process. The whiskey was bottled at cask strength and remains non-chill filtered, preserving the full character of the spirit.
Flavor Profile and Tasting Notes
Old Overholt Extra Aged Cask Strength 12-Year delivers the brand’s signature rye spice, complemented by layers of sweetness and oak. The whiskey is described as having a golden tawny color and a bold aroma of vanilla and baking spice with hints of tobacco. On the palate, drinkers can expect allspice, sweet vanilla, caramel, and charred oak, leading to a pleasant, full-bodied finish with lingering notes of black pepper.
Proof, Price, and Availability
Each batch of this release varies slightly in proof, ranging from 53% to 65% ABV, and will be available in 750mL bottles with a suggested retail price of $109.99. As an unfiltered, cask-strength rye, this limited edition showcases Old Overholt’s traditional distilling approach while offering whiskey enthusiasts a robust, full-flavored experience.
