Louisville-based Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. has officially announced the nationwide release of Peerless Toasted Rye Batch 2, starting July 12, 2025. This marks a broader rollout following the limited release of Batch 1 in March. The product builds on the momentum of Peerless’s previous limited-edition toasted releases and represents the latest addition to the brand’s growing rye portfolio.
Double-Barreled for Depth and Complexity
Peerless Toasted Rye undergoes a two-step aging process. Initially aged in the distillery’s standard char level 3 barrels, the rye develops foundational notes of caramel, brown sugar, and toffee. It is then finished in a second toasted barrel, designed to impart honey, vanilla, toasted spices, and chocolate, yielding a more aromatic and complex spirit.
Hand-Selected Barrels and Family Legacy
Peerless Head Taster John Wadell emphasized the care behind the process, stating, “We hand-select each barrel for the finishing process. We chose to use a medium toast because it contains less tannins, which results in a more aromatic whiskey with warm, sweet, savory character and strong vanilla overtones.” Wadell also reflected on the family’s journey: “Peerless rye holds a special significance for us, as it represents the revival of a family legacy dedicated to crafting exceptional spirits.”
Tasting Notes: Dessert in a Glass
According to the distillery, Batch 2 opens with vanilla pudding, banana bread, and creamy custard, followed by tapioca, cinnamon, and white pepper, with a touch of burnt maple syrup and clove. The palate offers a rich blend of honeysuckle ice cream, blackberry jam, and candied orange peel, finishing with flavors reminiscent of churros, vanilla ice cream, and graham crackers. The suggested retail price is $109.99.

Peerless’s latest rye release follows a string of industry accolades. Peerless Toasted Bourbon previously received a 98 rating at the 2024 International Wine and Spirits Competition, while their High Rye Bourbon and Double Oak Rye have earned consistent recognition. The launch of Toasted Rye Batch 2 continues the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation.
