Scott’s Tasting Notes: RD1 Bourbon Double Finished in Oak & Maple Barrels
- Nose: french toast, buttery cinnamon toast, and charred wood
- Palate: French Toast Crunch cereal, a grainy bread, and a lingering black pepper dryness.
- Finish: Nearly unmistakeable that this is a maple syrup finish, rich and heavy on the palate that leaves you with a lingering maple syrup sweetness.
Closing Thoughts
At first, I was a bit worried that this finish would be a bit heavy-handed. However, spending some time with it allowed me to appreciate the creation of this bourbon. While it is unmistakably “maple syrup”, this is a nice, dessert-y bourbon that is effectively finished without tasting like it has been swapped for a “flavored whiskey.”
