Glenmore Bourbon and Rye Bring a Historic Owensboro Whiskey Name Back to Kentucky.
Sazerac Company is reviving the historic Glenmore name with the launch of Glenmore Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and Glenmore Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. The new expressions are inspired by more than a century of history surrounding the Glenmore Distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky, which played a role in the development of American whiskey before production at the distillery ended in 1992.
The Glenmore Distillery traces its roots to 1869, when founder Richard Monarch began distilling whiskey in Owensboro. Over the following decades, the distillery became known for its whiskey brands, marketing efforts and role during Prohibition as one of the distilleries licensed to bottle medicinal whiskey. Sazerac now owns and operates the historic Glenmore distillery site, which has been transformed into a large production, barrel-aging and bottling facility supporting multiple spirits categories.

There is an entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to innovate that define the Distillery’s history, and we saw an opportunity to give those qualities new life. Glenmore Bourbon and Rye Whiskey Details
Both Glenmore expressions are bottled at 100 proof and carry a suggested retail price of $19.99 per 750ml bottle. According to Sazerac, Glenmore Bourbon Whiskey offers an oak-forward profile with notes of crème brûlée, toasted marshmallow, vanilla custard, caramelized sugar and toasted pecan. Glenmore Rye Whiskey features rye spice, black pepper, toasted grain and subtle sweetness, with a bold, warming finish.
“Glenmore Distillery’s history is about much more than the whiskey that carried its name,” said Nick Laracuente, Bourbon Archaeologist & Lead Archivist at Sazerac. “The archives reveal generations of people, ideas and ingenuity that helped build the Distillery and its brands. We studied advertisements, labels, photographs and records to help us piece together the Distillery’s story, and we’re excited to preserve that history while giving the Glenmore name an opportunity to be discovered all over again.”
Glenmore Whiskey Returns to the Market
Glenmore Bourbon Whiskey is now available through Sazerac’s U.S. distributor network and is beginning to ship to retailers, bars and restaurants. Glenmore Rye Whiskey will be available beginning in September 2026.
The new releases mark the return of a whiskey name with roots stretching back more than 150 years. Sazerac says the Glenmore brand is intended to carry the historic Kentucky whiskey name forward while drawing on the craftsmanship, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit associated with the original Glenmore Distillery.
