Smooth Ambler Brings Back its Legendary Old Scout 7 Year Bourbon

Smooth Ambler is bringing Old Scout 7 Bourbon – a bold, high-proof bourbon aged for 7 years – back to its lineup.

The team at Smooth Ambler has “returned to their roots” in re-introducing it’s Old Scout Bourbon. Smooth Ambler has no qualms in saying that their sourced Old Scout brand was what helped put their distillery on the map. However, they’ve continued that success beyond Old Scout thanks to their blending and distilling talent. Today, they’re producing an impressive lineup of whiskies, including their Cask Strength Founders Series bourbon and rye. We tasted these during Bourbon Lens Episode 238 with Founder John Little and Head Distiller Travis Hammond, and even shared them with our Bourbon Lens Patreon Tasting Club, and each received high praise. It’s exciting to see Smooth Ambler continue to put out great whiskies that tell the story of the Past, Present, and Future of their distillery.

Full Details on Old Scout 7:

When Smooth Ambler’s founder, John Little, first started “scouting” for whiskey in 2011, he searched for whiskey worthy to bring back home to the rolling hills of West Virginia where he could blend and bottle. As a result, Old Scout became the standard for sourcing whiskey by being transparent about bottling delicious whiskies from around the US and sharing it widely.  That is exactly what led to the legendary Old Scout 7.  And now, it’s back!

It’s no surprise why Smooth Ambler has grown a cult-like following of curious whiskey drinkers who applaud the distillery for its expertise in sourcing and blending.

Transparently sourcing whiskey was, and still is, such an important part of our foundation.  And, as it turns out, quite a few folks liked what we were doing with Old Scout.  Today, we are proud to keep the practice going and bring back  the legendary Old Scout 7, a high-rye mashbill bottled at 99 proof.

The Old Scout 7 mashbill is made up of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley.  The significant rye content adds bold, sweet and spicy flavors. If you ask us, it’s best enjoyed neat but, it also makes a heck of a cocktail.

You can find Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7 at select liquor stores throughout CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, LA, MD,MI, NC, NE, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, WI, WV, retailing at $64.99 per 750mL bottle (49.5% ABV / 99 Proof).

ABOUT SMOOTH AMBLER

Smooth Ambler is known as much for the bold and balanced flavors of their bourbons as they are for the bold balance in their lives, livelihood, and the way they celebrate both how a whiskey tastes and where it is distilled. They continue to deliver on their core beliefs and demonstrate this within their portfolio. In an age when it seems whiskey producers do everything they can to obscure the origins of their distillate, and create false and misleading narratives about the source of their whiskey, Smooth Ambler is a refreshing change of pace.  Different on purpose never felt so right.
