A New Expression with a Smoky Hakushu Influence
Suntory has announced the release of Toki Black Blended Japanese Whisky, an expression that introduces Hakushu Peated Whisky and Hakushu Grain Whisky into the award-winning Toki blend. According to Suntory, this addition imparts “a gentle yet lingering smokiness and richness that evokes the atmosphere of vinyl listening bars.”
Meets Japanese Whisky Standards
The new release adheres to the standards outlined by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association for labeling Japanese Whisky. This ensures that Toki Black meets the defined production requirements for authenticity.
Tasting Notes Highlight Balance and Depth
Toki Black offers layered tasting notes across the nose, palate, and finish. On the nose, it presents baked apple, oregano, and honeysuckle. The palate delivers butterscotch sweetness alongside complex flavors of clove, cinnamon, lavender, and toasted rosemary. The finish is described as “a sweet finish with white pepper, ginger and a gentle lingering smokiness.”
Inspired by City Rhythm and Classic Cocktails
Suntory positions Toki Black as “a whisky that beats to the rhythm of the city streets.” The brand notes it is well-suited for a sophisticated twist on classic cocktails, offering both versatility and refinement for modern drinking occasions.
Launch Accompanied by Musical Collaboration
To mark its debut, Toki Black launches alongside a musical collaboration between celebrated jazz musicians Terrace Martin and Ryota Nozaki. Recorded at ONKIO Studio in Tokyo, the two artists created original compositions celebrating life’s unique and unrepeatable moments. One of the pieces, Ichi-go ichi-e, captures “a beautiful moment of creative collaboration that will never be repeated.”
