Chris Stapleton and Buffalo Trace Master Distiller Unveil Traveller Full Proof

Buffalo Trace Distillery Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley and musician Chris Stapleton have officially launched Traveller Whiskey Full Proof, the first line extension from the Traveller Whiskey brand since its debut in January 2024. Bottled at 121 proof, the new release builds on Traveller’s Blend No. 40, delivering increased intensity while maintaining the brand’s approachable blended whiskey profile.

Proof Exploration and Blending Process

Stapleton and Wheatley approached the Full Proof release as an experiment in pushing Traveller’s blended recipe to higher proof while preserving balance. The final proof selection was determined during a backstage tasting session, where a 121-proof expression was unanimously selected. “Needless to say, when we decided to experiment with a higher-proof expression, I was excited to see where that could land,” said Chris Stapleton. “Everyone agreed 121 was the clear winner. It’s the same easy-to-drink DNA, just turned up a few notches.

Wheatley noted the impact of proof variation on blended whiskey flavor development, stating: “When we started experimenting with proof in Traveller’s blended recipe, flavors and finishes came to the forefront that aren’t as apparent in the 90 proof blend.

Traveller’s Growth and Visibility

Traveller Whiskey has expanded rapidly since its launch, earning multiple awards and global market distribution. In 2025, the brand became the Official Whiskey of Major League Baseball and gained visibility through JR Motorsports’ NASCAR partnership, including a top-10 finish in the 2025 Daytona 500. The Full Proof release was first hinted at in late January via social media featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr., Stapleton, and Justin Allgaier.

Flavor Profile and Product Positioning

Traveller Full Proof amplifies the Blend No. 40 profile with increased depth and finish length. According to the brand, the new release features notes of caramelized sugar, baking spice, toasted oak, vanilla, warm toffee, and dark fruit. The release aims to demonstrate how blended whiskey can deliver complexity and structure at higher proof levels.

Availability and Pricing

Traveller Whiskey Full Proof launched as a limited release in February 2026 and is now available nationwide. The suggested retail price is $39.99 for a 750ml bottle.
