Westland’s Annual Peated Whiskey Release Returns After 4 Year Hiatus.
Westland Distillery has announced the return of Peat Week, scheduled for February 21, 2026, marking the revival of one of the distillery’s most distinctive annual traditions after a multi-year hiatus. Peat Week centers on the release of heavily peated whiskeys alongside a series of events tied to the limited offerings.
Two Single-Cask Peated Whiskeys Featured
The 2026 Peat Week release, titled “A Tale of Two Peats,” will feature two single-cask peated malt whiskeys, each representing a different peat tradition. One expression is made using Scottish peated malt, reflecting traditional Old World peat influence, while the other uses Washington State–grown peated malt, highlighting Westland’s Pacific Northwest terroir and production approach.
Focus on Nature Versus Production Influence
According to Westland, the central theme of the release explores the question: “Is it nature… or is it nurture?” The two single casks are intended to demonstrate how peat character can vary based on origin, environment, and production philosophy, despite sharing the same core smoky element. “Two single casks. Two mighty traditions. One burning question that has haunted smoke-seekers for generations: Is it nature… or is it nurture?”
Limited Availability for Peat Week Only
Both single-cask releases will be available exclusively during Peat Week and in very limited quantities, with no planned re-releases or restocks. Westland stated, “These two single casks will live only in this moment; released solely for Peat Week, available in fiercely limited quantities, destined to disappear as quickly as they arrive.”
Peat Week Branding and Return
Westland confirmed that Peat Week’s visual and narrative identity continues to draw inspiration from circus performance themes, a creative direction used in prior editions. Announcing the event’s return, the distillery stated, “After a long hiatus, Peat Week returns to Westland. This grand return feels like the curtain rising once more on a beloved production.”
