Wheel Horse Whiskey is expanding its lineup of limited releases with the introduction of a new Rum-Finished Double Mash Whiskey, while also bringing back its annual Double Oak Bourbon. Both releases arrive at 101 proof, carry a suggested retail price of $40, and continue the brand’s focus on delivering flavor-forward whiskey at an accessible price point.

New Rum-Finished Double Mash Explores Bourbon, Rye, and Rum Cask Influence

Leading the Spring 2026 lineup is Wheel Horse’s new Rum-Finished Double Mash Whiskey, one of the brand’s most experimental releases to date. The whiskey blends bourbon and rye stocks, combining a 70/21/9 bourbon mash bill with a 95/5 rye mash bill to create a spirit that balances sweetness and spice.

Aged for a minimum of five years, the whiskey then undergoes an extended finishing process of up to two years in three different styles of rum casks. The additional maturation adds layers of brown sugar, tropical fruit, molasses, and baking spice while preserving the underlying caramel, vanilla, and peppery rye characteristics.

The release is limited to just 2,000 bottles nationwide, making it one of the rarest expressions in the Wheel Horse portfolio.

Double Oak Bourbon Returns for Another Limited Run

Joining the new release is the return of Wheel Horse Double Oak Bourbon, a seasonal expression that has become a favorite among the brand’s fans. The whiskey previously earned a 94-point rating from Wine Enthusiast and returns with the same production approach that emphasizes additional oak influence and enhanced richness.

The bourbon is aged for more than four years in new American oak barrels before being transferred into custom finishing barrels produced by Kentucky-based ZAK Cooperage. Those barrels feature oak that has been open-air seasoned for 18 to 24 months along with custom char profiles designed to build additional complexity.

Following up to eight months of secondary maturation, the bourbon develops deeper notes of toasted oak, caramelized sugar, vanilla, dark chocolate, and baking spice while maintaining its underlying bourbon character.

The Spring 2026 release is limited to 2,500 bottles.

Limited Availability

Both releases are available beginning today through Wheel Horse’s online store and at select retailers across approximately 15 states.

The introduction of the Rum-Finished Double Mash demonstrates Wheel Horse’s willingness to experiment with blending and finishing techniques, while the return of Double Oak Bourbon reinforces the growing popularity of secondary maturation among whiskey enthusiasts. With production capped at a combined 4,500 bottles, both releases are expected to attract collectors and fans of unique barrel-finished whiskey alike.
