Woodford Reserve has announced the return of its highly sought-after Double Double Oaked Bourbon, making its annual national debut at fine retailers and select domestic military exchange stores. The release begins January 14, with additional limited availability at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky.
A Coveted Expression with a Loyal Following
Originally launched in 2015 as part of the Woodford Reserve Distillery Series, Double Double Oaked has developed a devoted following among bourbon enthusiasts. The expression is known for its depth, richness, and layered complexity, reflecting Woodford Reserve’s continued focus on innovation and craftsmanship within American whiskey.
“This handcrafted double-barreled bourbon is beloved,” said Elizabeth McCall, Master Distiller, Woodford Reserve. “Resting 5–7 years in the first barrel, then up to two years in a second barrel, this liquid features extraordinary flavor notes. It is unexpected and complex.”
Extended Barrel Aging Defines the Profile
Double Double Oaked is produced by taking fully mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon and finishing it for up to two additional years in a second new oak barrel that is heavily toasted and lightly charred. This extended maturation creates a bourbon that is notably spicier than the standard Double Oaked, which is traditionally recognized for its sweeter profile.
Proof, Pricing, and Tasting Notes
The 700 ml release is bottled at 90.4 proof with a suggested retail price of $199.99. Official tasting notes describe a roasted coffee bean color, aromas of rich maple syrup, dark butterscotch, brittle caramel, bittersweet chocolate, burnt marshmallow, and sweet hickory smoke. On the palate, dried cherry and cranberry mingle with blackberry jam, apple notes, chai tea, and clove, followed by a warm, drying finish with lingering clove spice.

A limited quantity of Double Double Oaked will be available at the Woodford Reserve Distillery starting at 10 a.m. EST on January 14, with a purchase limit of two bottles per person while supplies last. The release will also be available for shipping via shop.woodfordreserve.com to select states where legal (KY, ND, NE, NH, and Washington, D.C.), as well as at select Kentucky retailers.
