Tasting notes: High West Bottled in Bond Rye Whiskey
Nose: This whiskey has a great malty smelling nose. Highlighted by citrus peel, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted bread. There is a sweetness that reminds me of French Toast.
Palate: Toasted bread and almond right on the front of the palate. Waves of vanilla, cinnamon, and brûlée sugar. The malt gives a great burst of chocolate and roasted nuts. It may be thin on the palate but has a punch of flavors.
Finish: Long lasting orange liqueur finish.
Closing Thoughts
This is pot still whiskey at its finest. The different mashbill allows you to see why the High West’s Double Rye is so well-rounded (this Utah-distilled Rye Whiskey is a component in their Double Rye blend). High West Bottled in Bond Rye lives up to way expectations and I look forward to what might be the next 100%-Utah whiskey from High West.
